The question of the establishment of a Faculty of Engineering at Raffles College was a metter of immediate interest to the Malayan Government, for at its request the Principal of Raffles College had drawn up a Report on this question after a visit to Great Britain. As we say in Section 88 the number of Asiatic Engineers who can be absorbed in Malaya at the present time is far too small to justify the establishment of a Faculty of Engineering at Raffles College. We have accordingly recommended that the few studente concerned should take the London External Degree Examination after studying at a new and larger Technical School at Kuala Lumpur. it necessary to point out that the facilities and staff necessary in this Technical School will require to be greater if this be done than if the school confines itself to the training of the technical subordinates mentioned in Section 89, for the School will need the approval of the Authorities of the University of London. An alternative arrangement might be that the few students concerned should be sent to the University of Hong Kong. where a School of Engineering is already established.
